Broadmarsh – A Waterfront CommunityWelcome to Broadmarsh. Located on Jeremy Creek in McClellanville, Broadmarsh looks across the creek to McClellanville’s Historic District to the east, and the Silver Hill Plantation of the McClellan Family across the marsh to the north. It is a parent driven, public charter school that is being proposed to serve McClellanville, Awendaw and the surrounding area. The School’s mission statement: “To teach a diverse population of children in McClellanville, Awendaw, and the surrounding areas in a safe and supportive learning environment in which families and students are encouraged to be actively involved in the educational process, foster individual growth, and promote respect for self, others, and the natural environment in which they live.” There have been two preliminary informational meetings which has generated a significant amount of interest. Currently there are just under 100 students that have already signed up. There will be volunteers manning booths at the Seewee Outpost, Bulls Bay Supply, McClellanville Dollar General and other locations in the near future to help get the word out.

McClellanville has a hidden jewel that is worth looking for. The Village Museum, tucked away between the Town Hall The museum is located at 401 Pinckney Street in McClellanville, near the end of Pinckney Street. Hours are Thursday, Friday and Saturday 10 am- 5 pm (Closed 12-1 for lunch, Bud’s gotta eat). There is a moderate fee to enter the museum, but members enter free. Joining the museum has other benefits including the annual oyster roast. This years oyster roast is going to be November 7th starting at 6 pm. Its not too late to join and participate in this annual tradition under the Town Hall. The museum chronicles the history of the entire St. James Santee area from the original Native American inhabitants through today. There are many well crafted, informative exhibits.
